Sew Your Own Lined Coat!

Join our 4-day sewing retreat in the beautiful Lake District. Enjoy focused time creating your own coat with expert guidance, comfortable/cosy accommodation and delicious meals in a relaxing and inspiring setting! 

During the Sewing Retreat we will all be sewing a fabulous fully lined Kelly Anorak! A classic lined coat with a modern cut, choose between different design features like a hood or collar and an optional drawstring tie. This is a coat that depending on your fabric choice is perfect for a transitional weather jacket, outdoor walking jacket, or one that keeps you cosy for layering in the winter months!

This is a project to really get your teeth in to, whilst mastering lots of new skills including; 

• Picking out your pattern size and learning how to alter a pattern for that perfect fit
• How to sew an open ended zip
• How to install hardware
• How to topstitch
• How to sew and insert a lining
• How to sew a three piece hood
• How to sew a two piece sleeve 
• Plus lots of different sewing techniques! 

Size range for the Coat pattern is as follows;

Size 0 - 20 (Bust 31" - 46", Waist 24" - 39" and Hips 33" - 48")

or

Size 14 - 30 (Bust 42" - 60", Waist 35" - 53" and Hips 45" - 63")

Upon booking, please confirm which pattern size bracket you will require. The size 0-20 is drafted as standard sizing, where as the size 14 - 30 is drafted for a curvy figure.

Due to the difficulty level of the pattern, you do need to have some sewing machine experience for this course and also have had experience of sewing up some dressmaking garments, though not necessarily coats!

Departure time on Thursday 6th November: 4:00pm

We will be running a  preparation evening session on Thursday 30th October at Just Sew, Penrith (5.30pm - 8.30pm). During this session we will prepare your pattern (picking our sizes, alterations etc) and start cutting your fabric, so you can really relax on your four days away! This is also the perfect time to meet your fellow sewists!

What you will need to bring with you

• Up to 3.50m (150cm/60" wide) fabric for your MAIN (Outer fabric):
  • Suggested fabrics: medium - heavyweight fabric like Cotton Twills/Drills, Cotton Canvas, Denim, Linen, Waxed Cotton, Wool. 
  • The exact quantities will be provided on booking, as it will depend on what size you will be sewing. 
• Up to 2.25m (150cm/60" wide) fabric for your LINING:
  • Suggested fabrics: Lightweight wovens like Flannel, Viscose, Silk, Cotton, Satin and Acetate.
  • The exact quantities will be provided on booking, as it will depend on what size you will be sewing. 
• 1.00m Fusible Interfacing
• Open Ended Zip
  • 26" Zip for Sizes 0 - 20
  • 28" Zip for Sizes 14 - 32
• 13x 12-15mm Metal Snaps
• Matching Thread for both Outer and Lining Fabric 
• Optional  (only required if sewing the drawstring tie); Drawstring Cord
  • 1.30m for Sizes 0 - 20
  • 2.30m for Sizes 14 - 32
• Optional (only required if sewing the drawstring tie); Eyelets/Grommets
  • 2X 6-7mm inside diameter
    • These can be replaced with a buttonhole if preferred. 
• Optional; Top Stitching Thread
  • If preferred you can use you general sew all matching thread
• Sewing Machine and Sewing Kit (don't forget your paper scissors!)
  • If preferred, for an additional £15.00 you can hire one of our sewing machines. Please notify us before the Sewing Retreat if you would like to hire a machine. 

The pattern used for this workshop is the fabulous Kelly Anorak by Closet Core Patterns

Payment

The full fee for the Sew Cumbria Retreat is £1,200 (this includes a 25% non-refundable deposit). 

If you would like to just pay the 25% non-refundable deposit (£300) and then pay the remaining fee in instalments then simply use the code at the checkout;
