Sew Your Own Denim Jacket! 8 Week Evening Workshop (Starting Thursday 5th June 2025)

Every Thursday, starting 5th June through to Thursday 24th July at Just Sew, Penrith.

Sew Your Own Denim Jacket 

This 8 week evening workshop, ran from Just Sew Penrith, is designed for those that are wanting to expand on their dressmaking skills and master all the skills involved for sewing your own denim jacket! 

The Denim Jacket - it never goes out of fashion since it was first released by Levi Strauss back in 1953 and now is the chance to sew up your very own! This jacket has ALL the features that you expect to find in a denim jacket, so you will master LOTS of new skills including; 

• Picking out your pattern size, including learning about cup sizes. 
• Sewing Chest Pockets
• Sewing Welt Pockets
• Sewing Two Piece Sleeve 
• Faux Flat Felled Seams
• How to install hardware
• How to topstitch
• Plus lots of different sewing techniques! 

Size range for the denim jacket is size 00 - 20 (Bust 30" - 49", Waist 25" - 40.5", Hip 33" - 48")

You do need to have some sewing machine experience for this course and also have had some experience of sewing up some dressmaking garments, though not necessarily a denim jacket!

Course Dates: Thursday 5th June, Thursday 12th June, Thursday 19th June, Thursday 26th June, Thursday 3rd July, Thursday 10th July, Thursday 17th July and Thursday 24th July. 

Course Start: 17.30pm

Course Finish 20.30pm

What's provided

• Sewing Craft Room environment at Just Sew, Penrith, CA11 7HJ
• Tea, coffee and refreshments throughout the workshop
• Paper pattern and instruction booklet 
• Print out booklet of other key information and tips and tricks for sewing your jacket. 

What you will need to bring with you

• Up to 2.10m (135cm/54" wide) fabric  
  • Suggested fabrics: medium weight wovens with crisp drape; denim, cotton twill
    • You do sew through multiple layers of fabric, so be mindful of the fabric thickness if your machine doesn't like sewing through thick layers
  • The exact quantities will be provided on booking, as it will depend on what size you will be sewing. 
• Up to 30cm (135cm/54" wide) fabric for your pocket linings
  • Suggested fabrics: quilting cottons
• 14x 17mm Jeans Button
• Scrap of fusible interfacing
• Matching Thread
• Matching Topstitching Thread.
• Sewing Machine and Sewing Kit (don't forget your paper scissors!)
  • If preferred, for an additional £15.00 you can hire one of our sewing machines. Please notify us before the workshop if you would like to hire a machine. 

The pattern used for this workshop is the wonderful Atenas Jacket by Itch to Stitch
